Coaching Cornerstones
The REAL way coaches are succeeding today
Master Your Craft
The best coaches I know do not give advice. Instead, they expertly guide their clients to their own realisations about what they need to do in order to succeed.
This is an important distinction because when we come up with our own reasons and action plans, we are much more compelled to carry them out, and therefore get results.
One of the reasons that I released Coaching Cornerstones (and my juicy bonus that I am about to tell you about) is to address the misunderstanding of what a coach actually does.
Coaching, by my definition, is not the same as telling someone how to achieve a goal. To my mind, that is mentoring. Coaching is a set of skills that can be applied to any context in order to assist our clients to reach their full potential. Coaching is not therapy, but it is more akin to that model than it is to consultancy, where the client is told what to do.
In order to become a master coach, there are a number of skills that must be learned and practiced. I introduce the most important ones in this short video.
At the end of this lesson you’ll be able to:
- describe what coaching is, and what it is not
- describe the difference between coaching and therapy
- suspend your judgement and understand why this is so important
- understand why sometimes your clients set the wrong goals, and how to make sure that they are the right ones
- practise active listening
These same skills can be applied to the interactions that you will have as you build your coaching business. By applying the 3 principles I am introducing in this lesson have also been the foundation of creating win-win agreements that have led to leaps in my business and the opportunities that I have created along the way.
Complete the quiz at the end, to unlock your opportunity to join me in my Coaching Quest for further tips and insights on how to make your coaching practice successful in today’s market!
