Module 5: Limiting Beliefs

At the end of this module you’ll know:

  • What limiting beliefs are, how they are formed, why they are so dangerous and how to identify and collapse them
  • How to identify clients’ limiting beliefs through their language
  • How to elegantly challenge limiting beliefs and collapse them so they no longer hold your client back

And you’ll no longer:

  • Feel the frustration of knowing that there is a block, but not knowing what to do about it

LIMITING BELIEFS – HOW TO IDENTIFY THEM & BREAK THROUGH THEM

One of the great attractions of coaching is the promise of helping our clients get past their seemingly insurmountable blocks and obstacles.  Limiting beliefs are at the core of these obstacles, and in this module you will learn how to identify them, and gently but effectively challenge them in yourself and others.

There are 2 video lessons in this module:

  1. What Are Limiting Beliefs?
  2. Let’s Talk Solutions

Now that you have watched the video, take a few minutes to consider the following:

Your internal dialogue – do you notice any of the language indicators in yourself? If so, what indicators do you use most commonly, and how do they make you feel?

Do you ever experience Procrastination and/or Perfectionism?

What awareness have you created for yourself, and what (if anything) will you do differently?

Use your listening skills to listen for cognitive distortion in others. What indicators did you notice?

If you were coaching that person on their limiting beliefs, how would you approach it? What questions might you use to deconstruct, or gently crack their limiting belief?

EXAMPLE COACHING SESSION

What you are learning in your Coaching Skills Diploma is great, but what does a REAL coaching session sound like?  Listen to this short coaching session that Lorraine conducted with one of her clients.

Now that you have listened to the session, take a few minutes to consider the following:

Use this space to capture your thoughts and insights from listening to the Example Coaching Session. What went well? What were some of your favourite moments? What questions can you add to your Question Bank? What would you do differently?

The next module is the FINAL module in your Coaching Skills Diploma.  In it I will share my own coaching model SWITCH with you.  SWITCH acts as a container for everything that you have been learning over the past 6 weeks.

You’ll learn:

  • Why a system is imperative for coaching conversations
  • What happens when you don’t have a system
  • How to run a SWITCH coaching conversation

And you’ll no longer have any:

  • Fear of sessions or conversations getting away from you and into a place where you don’t feel safe
  • Fear that conversations go round in circles and don’t move forward

Instead you will have:

  • Confidence that you can help your client achieve a positive forward movement, however small, in every conversation

Module 6 will be available on 17th July
